Global Warming : What you should Know !

Question: What Causes Global Warming?
Answer: Scientists have determined that a number of human activities are contributing to global warming by adding excessive amounts of greenhouse gases to the atmosphere. Greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide accumulate in the atmosphere and trap heat that normally would exit into outer space.
Greenhouse Gases and Global Warming
While many greenhouse gases occur naturally and are needed to create the greenhouse effect that keeps the Earth warm enough to support life, human use of fossil fuels is the main source of excess greenhouse gases.  By driving cars, using electricity from coal-fired power plants, or heating our homes with oil or natural gas, we release carbon dioxide and other heat-trapping gases into the atmosphere.
Deforestation is another significant source of greenhouse gases, because fewer trees means less carbon dioxide conversion to oxygen.  During the 150 years of the industrial age, the atmospheric concentration of carbon dioxide has increased by 31 percent.   Over the same period, the level of atmospheric methane has risen by 151 percent, mostly from agricultural activities such as raising cattle and growing rice.
The Consequences of Global Warming
As the concentration of greenhouse gases grows, more heat is trapped in the atmosphere and less escapes back into space. This increase in trapped heat changes the climate and alters weather patterns ( don’t you notice this phenomenon already ?), which may hasten species extinction, influence the length of seasons, cause coastal flooding, and lead to more frequent and severe storms.
We have been experiencing environmental disasters never experienced before, isn’t it about time we do something about it ?   Unfortunately, we in the Philippines are the least contributors to this problem but can do our share in saving whatever there is to save.  In fact,  in a previous article from BIZNEWS  magazine featuring the Philippine environment, it was mentioned that our islands ( Boracay and Palawan in particular ) are already in danger as, at the rate global warming is taking its effect on the environment, these islands will be under water ( what an effect that will have on the local people, livelihood and most likely our fast growing tourism ).
For your info, the following countries are the top contributors to global warming, some of these countries have done something to stimulate the prevention of global warming but unfortunately, there are still huge corporations that aren’t willing to sacrifice their profits for our precious environment :
1) United States
2) China ( mainland )
3) Russian Federation
4) India
5) Japan
6) Germany
7) Canada
8) United Kingdom
9) Republic of Korea
10) Italy
11) Mexico
12) South Africa
13) Iran
14) Indonesia
15) France
16) Brazil
17) Spain
18) Ukraine
19) Australia
20) Saudi Arabia
