Check Image Clearing System ( CICS )

Hello everyone,

Please be informed that starting on January 20, 2017 (Friday), Philippine Clearing House Corporation (PCHC) will implement the Check Image Clearing System (CICS) nationwide as approved by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP).

With the implementation of CICS – PCHC’s version of check truncation wherein images and information on the check are digitally captured, processing of check payments are made faster and more efficient eliminating manual handling of checks which is time consuming and costly.

Here are important points to consider for check issuers:

• Checks with old format (without waiver statement) will be accepted for clearing until June 30, 2017 only.
• Use dark-colored pens (black or blue) to write checks. Do not use pencil, pens with gel ink or erasable ink to fill out required information.
• Checks with erasure, alteration and/or deficiency will no longer be accepted even it is countersigned by the signatory.
• Checks that are folded, crumpled, stapled, deformed, mutilated, with torn edges or smudges will no longer be accepted.
• Affixes of figures in amount in words line will no longer be accepted. (i.e., One Hundred and 50/100 only; should be One Hundred and fifty centavos only).
• Make sure that the check is funded at the date of issuance.

Banks don’t accept check/s with incomplete or wrong payee name. This will make your transaction smooth, swift, and will avoid inconvenience to both parties.
